Tips for Travel to Salamanca, Spain

Salamanca is a university town. If you go during the school year, you have a nice mix of Salamanca students and the large amount of study abroad students, most of whom are from the United States and England/Spain. In the Summer, a real influx of students from the US enters into the city. This youthfulness means that Salamanca offers one of the best nightlife scenes in all of Spain, apart from Ibiza. Expecting things to get started around 11pm and even later in the more traditional Spanish bars. If you're looking for the English speaking party scene, you'll head to the Irish Rover, which is right in the middle of the University of Salamanca buildings outside the Plaza Mayor. The more traditional Spanish nightlife can be found at places like Garamond. If you want to start the night off right ask someone where to find the liter bars (litros). For around $5-$8 you can get you night started VERY right with a liter of rum and coke, calimocho, or similar.

Taxis in Salamanca are very cheap. It is not recommended to rent a car.

Tour the University. It's beautiful and full of history. It is one of the oldest in Spain.

If you want to save money, stay in a hotel outside the Plaza. It won't be that difficult to get around and you can use that money for other things.
